2008 Holiday Season at the San Jacinto Museum of History
This holiday season, the San Jacinto Museum of History is displaying late nineteenth and early twentieth century Christmas ornaments along with toys and other items that children have traditionally received as gifts. Visitors will see nineteenth century paper and wood ornaments, lead toy soldiers, a toy piano, prints and children's books and a selection of games, including a set of Tiddlywinks from the 1880s.

Currently on display is Developing Houston: Photographic Treasures from the Cecil Thomson Collection-a collection of over 200 photographs and period artifacts from 1885 to 1945 that captures the neighborhoods, businesses, notables, buildings and events that defined Houston and the surrounding region.

Recently, the Thomson family graciously donated copies of over seventy of their family photographs to add to the Museum's collection of Cecil Thomson's professional work. A good portion of these new photos depict the Thomson family, in particular his son Cecil Jr. and his daughter Mary Ellen, in front of the holiday tree with their presents. These annual snapshots, along with some other shots of the children at play, are displayed with the ornaments and toys in the lobby of the Monument.

Open now through mid January 2000, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (closed December 24 & 25).

In addition to visiting the exhibit, guests can learn more about Texas by touring the Museum's permanent collection (no charge), take the famous 489-foot ride to the top of the Monument and enjoy the digital presentation Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto.

Combo admission tickets for the Developing Houston exhibit, elevator ride and show are $12 adults, $8 children, $10.50 seniors. Museum members enjoy free admission.
